Hello parents, I wanted to take a few moments and introduce myself to you. I am 41 years old, grew up as the oldest of four children from blended families, and am the oldest of all my cousins. My lifetime has been full of taking care of younger children. This has largely contributed to my caregiving nature and patience.
My husband and I have been together for 21 years (married for 19) and we have both lived in the Puyallup area for over 20 years. We have two sons, 15 and 14 years old, and a 5-year-old daughter.
Prior to working at A Child's Place Learning Center, I worked remotely for a nationwide tele-healthcare company for four years, and before that I operated my own licensed in-home preschool/daycare for six years. Unfortunately, Covid-19 let to my daycare closing. These careers allowed me to work from home so that I could care for our children which has always been my lifelong dream.
Since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. When I was growing up we always had someone at home with us, and that was very comforting for me. It was important to me that my children had the same comforts, knowing I was home and available for them.
When my oldest was born, our livelihood depended on my income. So I was not able to stay home with him and it tore me up. Many nights were spent analyzing how I could stay home. Sunday nights were the worst for me, because I knew spending quality time with my family had come to an end. Ideas for other sources of income had been pondered, but none really offered me what I wanted, which was to be caring for and teaching my children. Then my husband suggested that I open an in-home daycare. I immediately loved the idea. I could stay home and take care of not only my children but other parent's children, who like me, had to go to work.
In addition to running my daycare, I also homeschooled our sons through 6th & 8th grade, until they asked to go to public school. Our oldest is now in 10th grade and in a STEM program to be an engineer. Our middle is in 8th grade and a year round athlete, excelling in track and football; he dreams to play in the NFL. And I just started preschool with our daughter this school year.
Now working at A Child's Place, I can bring my daughter to work with me and since my older two kids are in school, I can work here part-time and still be available for them before and after school. I love being a mom, and I know it sounds cliché and every teacher says it, but I love children. I love seeing the world through their eyes and experiencing the excitement of new things with them.
